About Dr. Reddy
Ashvini Reddy, MD is internationally known in the field of uveitis and retinal disease. She is currently the owner and director of Athena Eye Institute, a premier ophthalmology practice located in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Reddy and her team focus on individual care and long-lasting patient relationships. Her practice offers state-of-the-art technology, including spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, and virtual visual fields.
Dr. Reddy has over a decade of medical experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a Lewis Scholar and the President of the BBB Biological Honor Society. She received her Medical Doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 2007. Dr. Reddy also completed a medical internship, residency, and postdoctoral research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. She went on to complete an ophthalmology fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, America's leading eye hospital, in Miami, FL.
In 2013, she was the Director of Uveitis and Ocular Inflammation at the University of Virginia before joining the faculty of Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2015. She returned to Texas in 2019 as the founder and medical director of Athena Eye Institute.
Dr. Reddy has over 100 original research publications, review articles, society case reports, books chapters/monographs, and other scientific publications. In addition, she has reviewed articles for many scientific journals, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology and JAMA Ophthalmology. She has presented or moderated over 40 lectures nationally and internationally. To help bring cutting edge diagnostics and therapeutics to patients, Dr. Reddy serves on advisory boards for and partners with leading pharmaceutical and medical industry organizations, including Clearside, Alimera, Heidelberg Engineering, Bausch and Lomb, and Eyepoint Pharmaceuticals. She also cares deeply about global blindness and volunteers internationally with Retina Global.
Dr. Reddy is a leader in physician education. She has chaired the American Academy of Ophthalmology's (AAO) Online Education Committee and served as a section editor for the ONE Network. In 2018, she was selected for the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology's Leadership Development Program after serving on their Committee for Continuing Medical Education. Dr. Reddy is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and serves on their Education Committee. She was the recipient of the AAO Secretariat Award in 2016 and the Achievement Award in 2018. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
