The human genome project and other scientific studies have laid the foundation for a better understanding of how vision is influenced by genes. In 2018, the first gene therapy for blinding eye disease was approved, and we hope that more hereditary conditions will have similar treatment options - from macular degeneration to retinitis pigmentosa.
